I am currently looking at converting the 2200 container to run on the newer 5200 series drive and blade system. I may not be able to concert the 2200 drive spindle over to the newer drive socket system, this is a work in progress. No point in throwing out something that still works. As to the lid, I can make a new lid of any material I choose. With my Milling machine and Lathe I can make just about anything I need. Especially since Vitamix no longer supports the old 2200 machine. One advantage of the older 2200 machine is the reverse motor operation for the initial breaking down of nuts or fibrous vegetables.

I was just talking to Vitamix today for about 45 minutes. I was asking if the 2200 container would fit my 5200 model that I bought about like 13 years ago. She said no but said they do make a stainless steel container that does fit my 5200. It's expensive thought at $199.95. It is a 48 oz container she said with a Tritan plastic lid and a low profile plastic tamper. So I ordered it today.I figured it should last a long time.. The other advantages of stainless I heard is that it doesn't hold onto smells like plastic and it is faster to clean. One other important note is the lady told me anyway that their plastic containers haven't contained BPA since 2007. Although do they container a replacement chemical that could be as bad or what about other toxic chemicals too such as PFAS or phalates that are in some plastics as well.

Thanks for the great important information. I have a Vitamix blender from like 10 years ago. The picture is all plastic plus the plunger. I never thought about it containing BPA but was wondering if the plastic both picture and plunger contained the also extremely toxic man-made chemicals referred to as PFAS. Not only are they toxic but they're also considered "forever chemicals" as they never naturally biodegrade in the environment thus remaining toxic for eternity! The chemicals cause things that they are coated or contain them to be stain, oil and water resistant and they are used to prevent things from sticking to things and it makes things very slippery. I was thinking this because no matter how much I clean the plunger with soap it still beads water. Could you research these chemicals as well?

My dad had one of the all metal Vitamix blenders from back in the like late 90's. It even had an all wooden plunger. You can't get any more natural/toxic free than that.

That's one of the biggest things I hate about the US federal government is the immense collusion between the regulatory agencies (who were initially set up to protect and serve the best interests of the public) and private industry. Agencies such as the FDA and EPA are "captured agencies" , that are taken over by private industries they were meant to regulate. It's no different than the Mafia taking over a police department. The American people need to demand that their supposedly elected officials reverse this horrific practice.

Lena - You had me at stainless steel. My wife and I are pushing 70 years of age. The bulk of my time being spent as a photographer (back in the 'silver' emulsion world), and my wife, in Central Supply and Sterilization, at the local Hospital, so we both have a profound respect of Stainless Steel (SS). Long story short (good luck), but a few years ago, I was gifted some dark gray lids, of the wide mouth sort, that when in action, were much more 'tight' than the rest of the crap, commonly available. Thus, I was looking for them, and I eventually found you, Lena. As said, you had me at Stainless Steel. I have more questions, but I am exited, of the moment.

Both vegans and in amazing shape. :-) At 48 they’re fun to keep up with :-) it’s funny you put up this video and 75-year-old called me this morning asking if I knew a place to get good sprouting lids. I had to laugh I know someone that makes really good ones. So I will be ordering him a set today. If your travels bring you back to America I would love for you to see his garden 5 acres a beauty.

That unit is essentially a churn for semi-freezing the ice cream mix. The right way is vat to heat mix up to around 160 then through a homogenizer at 3500 lbs per square inch followed by a pasteurizer that heats the mix to 180 then chilled before going into the holding vat for churning. With these units you have to buy ready mix that only needs churning. Pity there was a small manufacturing unit. I would make my own mix. One that would be very low in carbs and no sugar.

Nice video and good choice of materials. I saw on another video the bowl is welded to the machine so that it cannot be removed, so that the freezing coils can be directly mounted to the other side of the bowl. Removable bowls often have an extra layer plus air layer, which increases time needed to cool, which increases ice crystals (less creamy). Vitamix Ascension 3500 and the stainless steel 48oz container addition... I believe the blade inside is stainless only as well. Kitchenaid 7qt. Proline has stainless attachment additions and you can get 3qt bowl whip combi for small whips. Motor is HP not Watts - quieter. Cheers!

All I want to know is how good is this for making cold brew coffee? I went out and bought a package of cheesecloth after reading up on making cold brews at home, and I think maybe 5 drops of liquid made it through the cheesecloth after 15 minutes! Before that I tried using a coffee filter - and that was a disaster. Only a tee shirt worked (sort of). So, now I'm looking at nut milk bags. I don't have money to waste (being on a fixed income), so I need to be sure that the coffee-water mix will strain through the bag and not take an hour or hours. Better yet, I'd like to enclose the coffee in the nut bag and let it steep inside the jar of water and never have to strain it at all.

it would seem the lid issue would not be much of a problem, just put saran wrap - it wont touch your food and it will catch falling pieces. You will loose the plunger capability but most blenders don't have plungers. As a PhD scientist I can tell you very little science is unbiased, all research and all labs need money and it comes from somewhere. The important thing with science is to check the procedures that are being used to test. Procedures should be standardized (agreed on by lots of scientist). When quoting scientific studies it's best if there are SEVERAL studies that show the same result or if only one study then that study needs to be huge with a tremendous amount of data or participants so the results are statistically significant. If you have family members in their 80s and 90s that grew up storing everything in 1970s-80s Tupperware then your genetics are probably good for fighting BPA issues

You can’t recycle #7 because it is a sort of catch all for multiple types that don’t fit into the other categories. They can’t mix them or it becomes contaminated. Your blender is just scratched from use. It’s not a big deal to eat a few micro particles of plastic for the same reason it’s not a big deal to breathe in tiny bits of dust or your own dead skin cells covering your bed at night. Why not talk about the the tiny bits of burnt carbonized material on your food that has “dangerous carcinogens” if you’re so worried. You eat tiny amounts of pesticides and herbicides or dirt, insects, and/or bruises on fruits and veggies all the time. Yet the impact of pesticides and herbicides makes general health and availability of fresh food better, not worse. Also, antioxidants are there to protect against free radical damage, including helping your body to manufacture its own to maintain itself! But stop living by this everything not good for you is a toxin categorization. Remember that the dose makes the poison. It is correct that BPA is esteogenic. However, impact and amount of BPA is so small at the scale of one blender or your water bottles and Tupperware it’s not a big deal at all. If you can’t use BPA, you have to use another bisphenol in order to strengthen the plastic. And hint hint, most of them are estrogenic but nobody talks about that. It’s nothing to worry about. There’s way more BPA on your receipts from the store compared to what leeches out of these plastics which by the way, only happens the most at high temp with non polar compounds like cooking oil or butter. We are also being bombarded by gamma rays from space constantly, but nobody talks about that. You’re much more likely to get skin cancer from the sun than run into issues with this stuff, and yet very few people even care to put on sunscreen every time they go outside.
